Contract Period: July 1, 2020 &#8211; June 30, 2021 Contracted work beginning earlier Compensation: $80,000/year + benefits Reports to: Exploration High School Board Location: Exploration High School (229 13th Avenue NE Minneapolis, MN 55413) Built upon a foundation of academic excellence and a mindset to drive change, Exploration High School (ExHS) graduates are empowered with 21st century skills to solve problems in their communities. Designed around Education Reimagined&#8217;s five pillars of a learner-centered paradigm, ExHS will enroll up to 60 9th and 10th grade students starting fall 2020 and grow to serve approximately 160 9th -12th grad students at full capacity. Summary: Exploration High School is seeking a founding Head of School for the 2020-2021 school year. The Head of School will act as a liaison to the community while supporting the personalized growth of both students and teachers. The Head of School will be active in the design and implementation of learning and look through a lens of empowering all individuals (as student &#8220;explorers&#8221; and teacher &#8220;guides&#8221;) to drive his or her own learning journey. The Head of School will be the content area teacher for one core subject area. The Head of School will float throughout the school building deep relationships with students and teachers while contributing to community-focused project-based learning. The Head of School will lead the school&#8217;s strategic visioning and community networking. Essential Functions, Duties, & Responsibilities: * Supervises all certified and non-certified personnel including forecasting needs, recruiting, interviewing, recommending for hire, staff development, observation, evaluation of performance, and discipline (includes contracted work before July 1, 2020) * Support Start-Up Coordinators with final recruitment efforts (contracted work before July 1, 2020) * Oversee the Operations Director, who handles all non-student-facing tasks including transportation, food services, facilities, purchasing, technology, and compliance. * Serves as content area teacher for one subject. * Initiates and directs staff efforts to meet the instructional goals of the framework of ExHS. * Fosters a culture of high expectations and increased student achievement for all students. * Engages in instructional observation, assessment, data review and coaching with teaching staff. * Prepares and administers budget for building and grounds, general fund, and personnel. * Acts in accordance with professional ethics, state and federal laws and regulations, and Board mandates, rules, policies, procedures and assignments. * Attends all ExHS Board meetings as ex-officio member. * Consistently creates an atmosphere of value and respect for students, staff, parents, colleagues and community members. Responds to requests for information from students, staff, parents, community groups, and governmental organizations. * Works to develop, build, and maintain a well-functioning school work team. * Works cooperatively with teachers, parents, and community members in the best interests of students. * Promotes parent and community involvement to actively support the work of the school through committee participation, written communications, meetings and other public relations strategies. * Directs and manages professional development of staff through goal setting, data retreats, professional learning cohorts, and programming aligned with district and school improvement plans. * Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: * Experience operating a charter school in Minnesota, including supervising professionals * Content Area Teaching Licensure by State of Minnesota * Bachelor&#8217;s Degree with 5+ years of related experience or Post-Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in field related to Educational Leadership with 1+ years of related experience Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in start-up organization (school or other) * Experience in a collaborative learning environment with diverse stakeholders * Ability to network throughout community Application & Hiring Process: Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Required Qualifications:
