Social Worker, K-6, FTE - College Prep Elementary

Position Opening: College Prep Elementary is now accepting applications for a K-6 Social Worker, for the 2020-2021 school year. Qualifications: &#8226; Valid MN Elementary Teaching License (required) &#8226; Experience working with similar population (preferred, but not required) Position Description: This position requires the Social Worker to collaborate with staff and outside organizations to provide culturally sensitive school social services and assistance to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of children and families and other duties as assigned. CPE Social Worker Duties and Responsibilities: * Work directly with students, staff/teachers, families, or community members to address issues such as mental health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, physical abuse, rehabilitation, social adjustment, child care, or medical care. * Assess student or family situations, capabilities and problems to determine what services are required to meet their needs. * Serve as liaisons between students, homes, schools, family services, child guidance clinics, courts, protective services, doctors, and other contacts to help children who face problems such as disabilities, abuse, or poverty. * Maintain records of actions taken, services data, and prepare reports as needed. * Work directly and provide support for parents with child rearing problems, interviewing the child and family to determine whether further action is required. * Refer student and family to community resources for services, such as job placement, debt counseling, legal aid, housing, medical treatment, or financial assistance, and provide concrete information, such as where to go and how to apply. * Consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems, such as truancy and misbehavior, and to implement solutions. * Work directly with students whose behavior, school progress, or mental or physical impairment indicate a need for assistance. * May participate in legal issues, such as child abuse and discipline, assisting with hearings and providing testimony to inform custody arrangements. * Develop and review service plans (IEP and other behavior support plans) in consultation with IEP team and perform follow-ups assessing the quantity and quality of services provided. This includes progress monitoring student progress and/or lack of progress to be shared with parents. * Provide, find, or arrange for support services, such as child care, homemaker service, prenatal care, substance abuse treatment, job training, counseling, or parenting classes to prevent more serious problems from developing. * 12. Support families arrange for medical, psychiatric, and other tests that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures. * 13. Provide school social worker services listed on students&#8217; IEPs. * 14. Perform observations and data collection as part of the special education assessment process and/or CST process. * 15. Provide social worker related topic trainings to help educate staff, teachers and families as needed. * 16. Attend IEP meetings and behavior support meetings as needed. * 17. Provide crisis intervention services for students and families.
