The American Indian Education Interventionist will collect and assess data to provide assistance and direct academic support to American Indian students in the educational setting. This position will work closely under the American Indian Education Director at the assigned schools to meet the unique educational and cultural needs of American Indian students and achieve program goals. This opportunity is a long term substitute position available through the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Position Responsibilities: * Collect and assess data to determine academic need(s) of American Indian students * Design academic interventions to address specific academic needs of American Indian students * Provide direct academic assistance to American Indian students in the educational setting including assistance in the curricular areas of mathematics, reading, writing, social studies, science, and additional content areas in the current K-12 curriculum * Utilization of Infinite Campus system information to gather and monitor student attendance, behavior, and academic progress based on assigned caseload and submit to American Indian Education Director * Facilitate meetings with American Indian students, families, and school personnel including administration and teachers to discuss attendance, behavior, and academic progress * Collaborate and communicate with administration and general education teachers to implement best practices for supporting American Indian students in the K-12 educational setting * Follow Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) when working with special needs students * Comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and current educational privacy regulations to ensure student confidentiality * Attend meetings and trainings focused on issues in special education, due process, child study, MDE trainings, and local American Indian Parent/JOM Committees * Other duties as assigned by the American Indian Education Program Director Position Qualifications: * Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in education, psychology, counseling, cultural studies, or related field from accredited 4 year university or college * 2 years experience working directly with children or young adults in an educational setting * Sensitivity to cultural differences * Strong academic skills to assist students in the K-12 educational setting * Ability to build relationships, problem solve in the work environment, and adapt to changes in the work setting * Ability to work independently * Strong oral and written communication skills * Computer skills Desired Qualifications: * 3-5 years or more teaching or counseling experience working directly with American Indian students or other culturally diverse student populations and their families * Previous knowledge or understanding of American Indian culture St. Louis County Schools, ISD 2142 is an equal opportunity employer.
