The incumbent collects relevant information on students including assessment information and reports the findings to the American Indian Parent Committee and the Special Services Administrator. The incumbent also manages the program, coordinates the work of the department employees and provides direct educational services to students. Job Summary: 1. Identifies students in need in order to assist the students through advocacy, tutoring and referral to appropriate services. 2. Identifies and makes application for grants to ensure continuation of the program. 3. Makes home visits, as necessary, to gather information, obtain parental assistance and to facilitate enrollment in the program. 4. Maintains written documentation on participating students involving work with staff, parents, and the community so that accurate records are available as needed. 5. Collects pertinent statistical information to ensure that the proper preparation of grant proposals, reports and student or program evaluations. 6. Prepares and submits reports to the Special Services Administrator, American Indian Parent Committee, School Board and other committees regarding program related issues to ensure that the necessary governing agencies are informed ofthe program. 7. Provides assistance to students in academic and attendance improvement in order to provide educational opportunities for targeted students. 8. Attends and participates in appropriate meetings, conferences and in-service workshops with prior approval of superiors. 9. Encourage the American Indian community to participate in programs sponsored by the American Indian Education Committee to ensure acceptance and support. 10. Maintain knowledge and information on laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures that are pertinent to the program in order to accurately address the needs of the program. 11. Collaborates with other student support services to provide for a continuum in the educational expenence. 12. Other job related duties as assigned. Qualifications: 1. BA/BS in related discipline or equivalent. Good human relation skills. 2. Good knowledge of learning skills for students. 3. Good knowledge of student behavior management techniques. Ability to work effectively with parents, students and other staff. Willingness to accept and follow direction. 4. Knowledgeable of American Indian education, culture, and community issues. 5. Experience working with and counseling American Indian children and families preferred. Ability to work independently and in a team with minimum supervision. 6. Willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
