Description Immaculate Conception Catholic School is seeking a Cultural Liaison to work collaboratively with multilingual students, their families and Immaculate Conception School staff. This position encourages and empowers all to become active participants in the educational activities and programs of their children. The primary purpose of this position is to support a successful education experience for all multilingual students. Areas of Responsibility * Bridge information from schools on enrollment paperwork, attendance, school performance issues, school policies and procedures, health notices, conferences, teacher or administrative communications * Participate with families at school conferences and IEP meetings * Act as a communication liaison from parents to school or school to parents including home visits when appropriate. * Communicate with appropriate teachers and other district personnel as necessary on academic matters. * Promote family participation in school conferences and events * Promote student self-advocacy and relationship building * Organize culturally specific affinity groups, clubs and activities For 85 years, Immaculate Conception School has been a vital part and beacon of light in Columbia Heights and the surrounding communities. Qualifications * Bilingual in English and Spanish is required. * Knowledge of school policies, procedures and guidelines and fundamentals of administrative functions. * Understanding of cultural issues, concerns and community resources with the school and its community. * Candidates must have knowledge and understanding of Latino American culture, ability to develop good relationships with students, families and staff and experience working with students in a school setting. * Excellent communication skills * Desire to provide assistance and advocacy to culturally diverse learners and their families to promote school success. * Desire to be a part of system change efforts to create more culturally aware schools and community services * Skilled in various computer apps such as Word, Excel, Email, etc. * Associates degree or a two-year college or technical school training; previous experience in similar position is preferred.
