JOB TITLE: Family and Community Engagement Specialist
BUILDING: Districtwide
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services
TERMS: Per Teacher’s Master Agreement for Tier 1, 2, 3, & 4 Employees
Individual Contract for Non-licensed (Unaffiliated) Employees
JOB PURPOSE:
The Family and Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing initiatives that foster strong partnerships between schools, families, and the community. This role includes oversight of PK-12 family engagement events, early childhood family education programs, teen parent programs, and community engagement events. Serving on multiple district-level leadership teams, the specialist works closely with district leadership, school staff, families, and community partners to create inclusive and effective engagement opportunities that support student success.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Family and Community Engagement Specialist shall:
1. Hold a valid Minnesota teaching license –or- Demonstrate education, work history and/or expertise in the essential functions of the position (outlined below) and agree to work toward a valid Minnesota teaching license. The work of candidates who do not hold a valid Minnesota teaching license will be overseen by a licensed teacher or administrator or will not include duties that require a license.
2. A Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, human services, or a related field is preferred.
3. Have at least three years of experience in family engagement, community outreach, or education programs.
4. Have experience in planning and coordinating events, workshops, and educational programs.
5. Demonstrate knowledge in best practices in family and community engagement and parent education.
6. Possess the ability to effectively teach and/or coach colleagues, teachers, parents, and administrators.
7. Possess the ability to effectively organize and present information both orally and in writing.
8. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others, including students, parents, and colleagues.
9. Demonstrate a strong moral character and impeccable work ethic.
10. Have experience with or show willingness and excitement in working with Native American children and families.
11. Integrate Ojibwe Language and Culture into your workspace.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The Family and Community Engagement Specialist will engage in the following essential duties. This list is illustrative of the types of work in which the Specialist will engage and is not exhaustive.
Family Engagement:
* Plan, coordinate, and oversee PK-12 family engagement events to strengthen home-school partnerships.
* Develop and implement strategies to increase family participation in school activities and decision-making processes.
* Provide training and resources to educators on best practices for engaging families from diverse backgrounds.
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of family engagement initiatives and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
Early Childhood Family Education:
* Oversee early childhood family education programs, ensuring alignment with district goals and state guidelines.
* Collaborate with early learning educators and community partners to provide resources and support for families with young children.
* Develop workshops and events that promote early childhood learning and development.
Teen Parent Programs:
* Coordinate and support programs designed to assist teen parents in continuing their education and accessing necessary resources.
* Partner with local agencies to provide wraparound services, including childcare, healthcare, and career readiness support.
* Advocate for policies and initiatives that support teen parents and their children within the school system.
Community Engagement:
* Plan and implement community engagement events that foster collaboration between schools, families, and local organizations.
* Establish and maintain relationships with community partners, businesses, and service organizations to enhance family and student support services.
* Serve as a liaison between the school district and community stakeholders to promote shared goals and initiatives.
This position will require travel between schools within the district. Work is performed in both office and school settings with occasional to frequent evening meetings or professional development sessions.

Salary and Benefit Range:
