Student Support Specialist (PK-8th) -Modern Montessori Charter School Mission: We are a collaborative learning community rooted in Montessori principles integrated with current technology through an innovative, child-centered approach. Description: Modern Montessori Charter School is seeking a Student Support Specialist for the 2026-27 school year. Job Responsibilities Manage day-to-day student discipline and behavior management issues for general and special education students. Confers with students, parents, teachers, and support services personnel on matters of discipline and problem solving. Reports to administrators, staff members, parents, and students relative to issues affecting student performance. Teaches and models socially acceptable replacement behaviors by redirecting student behaviors in positive and pro-social ways. Completes all necessary reporting requirements related to discipline, bullying, restrictive procedures, and related state and federal reports. Monitors and ensures compliance with all relevant state and federal laws pertaining to student behavior management and discipline. Communicates directly with parents, teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, case managers and other parties impacted by the behavior issues. Investigates and responds to complaints of bullying or other behavior problems in both the on-campus and online environments. Continually develops and improves policies and processes related to student behavior management in collaboration with the administrative and student services team. Develops and maintains a positive school culture in keeping with the school?s mission. Monitors, observes, and reports behavior of students according to approved procedures; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior; collects/documents data for the purpose of ongoing behavior intervention service planning and review Other duties as assigned Qualifications Two years? experience working with elementary and/or middle school children/youth in an educational or behavioral setting Knowledge of positive intervention supports, behavior management, crisis response, de-escalation, and physical restraint Experience working with students with social, emotional and/or behavioral needs Knowledge of behavioral management and techniques used with special needs populations Trained in CPI or similar protocols, or willingness to complete training Experience with classroom and school-wide behavior management programs such as responsive classroom, PBIS, culturally responsive behavior management and/or similar processes. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong attention to detail, deadlines and legal requirements Ability to use data collection and documentation processes Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student discipline, bullying, sexual harassment, etc. Knowledge of restorative practices or willingness to embark/continue training Knowledge of dispute resolution techniques and ability to engage in dispute resolution. Qualifications
