The Blake School seeks an assistant director to work in collaboration with the director, administrative assistant and office manager to ensure smooth operations of the Middle School, which consists of approximately 330 students in grades 6-8 and 45 faculty and staff members. Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity and lived experience that makes a community strong and empowers students to engage across differences. Blake provides substantial resources for professional learning in areas including adolescent development, learning differences and intercultural competence. Experience and Skills: Essential Functions and Responsibilities: * Work closely with and in support of the Middle School director to lead a vibrant division of students, faculty and staff * Lead by example to promote Blake&#8217;s core values of respect, love of learning (curiosity), integrity and courage through active participation in a growing house system * Oversee course registration and the student scheduling process * Maintain and communicate a clear weekly calendar, including daily advisory slides * Lead weekly grade-level team meetings and work closely with the Middle School student support team (SST) * Be actively involved in the daily lives of students through oversight of their academic progress, informal interactions in the hallways and attendance at Middle School events, including academic contests, concerts, plays, athletic competitions and sponsored socials * Counsel students, faculty and parents/guardians, as appropriate, to support student needs * Coordinate responses to student behavior/discipline issues * Assign faculty duties and oversee completion * Works closely with the MS director to plan assemblies and professional development in the division * Organize field trip logistics for signature experiences in the division * Assist with afternoon dismissal * Meet monthly as a member of the lead administrative team * Represent the Middle School at admissions events and participate in the admissions process by reading student applications and making recommendations * Serve on PK-12 or Middle School committees as requested by the Head of School or Middle School director Minimum Qualifications: * Master&#8217;s degree * Five years of successful Middle School teaching and/or leadership experience * Constructivist educational philosophy * Strong oral and written communication skills * Deep appreciation for early adolescents and their potential * Creative, joyful approach to teaching and learning * Detail-oriented and thorough with strong organizational skills * Excellent serial-tasking ability; able to work with multiple and changing priorities * Sense of humor; flexibility * High level of integrity and confidentiality Disclaimer: The information contained herein is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of the job, nor are they intended to be an all-inclusive list of the skills and abilities required to do the job.
